Q: Who are the founders of your company and give us a brief summary of each their backgrounds in tech.
Derrick has over 20 years of experience in sales across various markets and mentoring youth.
NuuED was developed from his desire to help give learners the tools needed to succeed.
Derrick has unique experience in research in the areas of educational tools and social applicability. His initiatives and experience have propelled the creation of the NuuED focused on differentiated learning.
Derrick’s leadership skills have provided the foundation for the NuuED leadership team.
Joseph A. Coleman Sr.
Joseph is co-founder and chief technology officer of NuuED. With 30 years of experience in technology, Joseph leverages his vast knowledge in building global systems, enterprise applications and mobile technologies. Over the last three decades’ Joseph has architected and built applications and/or products for fortune 100 companies, ranging from semiconductor, healthcare, financial, aerospace, e-learning, transportation and shipping, retail, oil & gas.
Learning is a passion for Joseph because to know, you have to understand, and blending that in with new and innovative technologies is the pathway for success for the future.
Q: Tell us about your company.
A: The Company NuuED Inc.We are a new and innovative technology company, focused on Education. We launched in 2013. We understand learning is key and we provide tools and services to help learners.
Q: What problems does your app solve?
A: Our application is designed to deliver search results based on your unique learning personality. A person may have multiple browsers open searching multiple subject areas and trying to keep track of it all. Well with the NuuED SpiralTM, all you have to do is setup your learning paths and click our Search icon and we will do the hard work and deliver search results organized to your learning personality.
For Educators: Differentiated Instruction
Differentiated Learning is the philosophy that states everybody does not learn the same way. With the NuuED SpiralTM, teachers will be able to upload their lesson plans and/or rubrics into our system and students who are on our platform will get the benefit of results they searched for organized based on their unique learning personality.
Q: What does your company do or make?
A: We created an application called the NuuED Spiral™, which provides you, the Learner the ability to search on our platform for educational content that is delivered to learner based on their unique Learning Personality. In our application, you have the ability to earn NuuCreds which can be applied to your scholarship fund. In our application, you have the ability to earn NuuCreds which can be applied for certain discounts from members of our Reward Zone (Game Stop, Best Buy, etc.…)
Q” What has been your biggest challenge as a startup founder?
A: One of the biggest challenges is making sure you have a mentor, someone that have driven down that paved road and knows the correct paths to take to succeed.
The next biggest challenge is to make sure you have the right People in place that can work as a Team
Q: Did you ever feel like giving up?
A: Never, no plan B
Q: What lessons did you learn from that challenge?
A: Again, making sure you have some type of mentorship when first starting out. If viable, setting up strategic opportunities in alignment with your product and/or deliver of that product
Q: What has been your biggest Victory!
A: The Biggest Victory is being able to bring to life our smart app the NuuED Spiral™, that understand how you learn best and provides you with content organized to your learning personality. The ability to make a difference.
Q: How did it make you feel?
A: It’s an overwhelming feeling to create something from nothing. The vision and seed was planted early on with Derrick and I. We are both entrepreneurs at heart.
Q: What lessons have you learned from your success?
A: People, Process and Product. I know we often hear about this and we even discuss it, but I feel that it is extremely important to understand the overall concept and apply it in your everyday business.
Q: If you could only give one piece of advice to an aspiring tech startup founder, what would it be?
A: It would be to surround yourself with people who know what you do not know. Make sure you have a mentor that is involved with you and your operation. People, Process and Product
Q: Has your company received funding? If so, what type of funding? From Who?
A: Yes, we have secured $3M in funding from Duklaw Ventures a Swiss based venture capital group. Duklaw Ventures. We are an early stage startup.
